Hall of Football = All of Football

Hall of Football is the ONLY football service that rates and tracks the best of the best, from the cradle to Canton. We rate the next two prep recruiting classes, prospects for the next draft, and track all ~14,000 active CFB players during their college career. We have been doing that for more than 30 years for teams, leagues and agents.

We also have a dramatic new addition: rating pro players by position throughout the season. We began this when creating the underlying rating system for EA’s Madden Football, which is now used by virtually every sports gaming platform.

History

Hall of Football (HallofFootball.substack.com) is the latest and greatest in the evolution of NFL Draft Scout (NDS), founded in 1987 and enhanced in 1997 when it partnered with Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh. In the 1990s, Brian “Hitman” Hitterman built our massive database, and soon after, NDS intel and ratings became a ubiquitous internet source for draft information for pro teams, leagues, and virtually every major media and broadcasting company, including NFL.com, CBS Sports, USA Today, Sports Weekly, FOX Sports.

Background

Founder and publisher Frank Cooney covered football at every level since 1965, when he began a 30-year career as an award-winning sportswriter for Hearst’s San Francisco Examiner.

In the 1970s, he created a rating system for pro football called Grid Grade, which predicted teams and results of Super Bowl XIV (Steelers vs. Rams), and others. In the mid-’70s, he was GM of a semi-pro team in two consecutive American Football Association (AFA) championship games. In 2007, he was inducted into the AFA Hall of Fame.

In the 1980s, Cooney teamed with Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins to create the underlying rating system for Madden Football. In 1994, Cooney was on the launch team for the innovative NFL on FOX, which won four consecutive Emmys. Cooney has been on the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee since 1990 and is on the Senior Blue Ribbon Selection subcommittee.
