MTC Mock No. 3: Shedeur in Top 10
Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller go through two rounds, with trades
TRADES
Here we go with Movin’ The Chains’ Mock Draft No. 3, the best yet. Two rounds with trades.
We transcribed the top part of the show and link you to the rest.
Before we hand off to the link, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders goes off the board. Read when and to whom.
Be advised that football talk radio doesn’t convert to elegant English, but you aren’t here for that. You are here for football, and MTC’s co-hosts Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan have plenty of homework and insight to share.
We did take out 153 “ums” and 124 “uhs” to enhance your reading pleasure.
On with the show (aired Friday, April 11):

Kirwan: It's mock draft day, so just I'll pay attention to that concept while we're getting ready for this thing. We'll have some fun with it. , I have two teams that only have four picks at Atlanta. Only four picks in the draft and Minnesota only four picks in the draft. So I will attempt to get down. I love when a GM says, well, there won't be many picks you have, but you know what, I regret that. And you have your six picks and you have three in the top a hundred you're as happy as could be.
Minnesota does not have a second-round pick. They go 24 then 97, 139, 187. I'm sure they're trying to get down and get an extra pick at least in the second, maybe the third. And Atlanta the same way--15 and 46. And then the drought goes from 46 to 118. So they'd like to move down, I think to get themselves a third round pick. Not very far, but how far can you go down and qualify for that kind of compensation?
That's all fun and games will be with that. But a couple things that are just historical in a sense. And I will tell you that I have 72 names for the 64 spots. So I'm pretty sure I'll get my 64 guys and not get short-changed. But I did go back and look at the last five years. This is just really fast.
How many quarterbacks, how many position guys go in the first two rounds over the last five years? Quarterbacks average five. I have six names on my list. Pretty comfortable there. Running backs average four, I have seven guys on my list. I'm very comfortable there. Wide receivers. 10 and I only have six on the list, but you and I have talked about, we didn't think it was a great class and there's some free agents left that you might wanna think about trying to sign. Tight ends average three tight ends over the first two rounds. I have five guys feel comfortable there. Offensive tackles have eight on average for two rounds and , I have six on the board so I could fall short in that area. Guards average 2.5, call it two to three. I have five on the list. Feel good there. Centers average two, I have two and so on and so forth.
I don't wanna bore everybody. I will say cornerbacks average nine in the first two rounds. I have eight on the board, so might fall short there. Safety's average four over the first two rounds and I have four on the list. So you get the point. I have 10 defensive tackles on the list. They'll be fine and meet the standard there.
One of the ways I look at things. ….doesn't mean I have to have enough for the average, but it is interesting to know the average over the last two years. And then, as I said, I have 35 offensive guys on the list and 37 defensive guys for the 72 spots. And then hopefully I will you draft someone that's not on my list. I can look at it two ways. Like I blew it and I don't have the right list or good. That's one more of my guys I'm gonna get. So who knows how it's gonna go. But I've been in the draft room when everyone turns and looks at each other and they took that guy in the second round. We don't even, we have him as a fourth round graded guy, which goes back to the beauty contest business and how people see players a lot differently than others.
. … Off the field issues. … Isaiah Bond, obviously a very talented receiver coming out in this year. He surrendered on a an outstanding sexual assault warrant. Turned himself in….posted bond and was released.
Bond: “I would appreciate the time and the opportunity to defend myself and prove the claims made patently false. I am in full cooperation with the authorities and will remain a willing and active participant in the investigation.”
Miller: Well, you know, when you have the off the field issues, certain players are able to clear things up and certain things are ongoing. Not all the details I think will be in on Isaiah Bond as the draft fast approaches. How do you deal with circstances like this?
Kirwan: Well, as I've said before, there'll be teams that'll take 'em off the board. There'll be guys that drop 'em down. …
In the meantime, we are ready to go. Two rounds is fun. Let me say this about the format: I decided to defer. Jimmy's got one and two, I have three and four, and we go back and forth all the way around. The problem is if we're getting into trades, I can only trade with guys that I own the rights to the team in the second round, et cetera….
But last thing, as I said, you own Washington, as well as Atlanta and Minnesota. They're at the bottom of the first and they're only with five picks and only two in the top a hundred. How many do you have in the top 100 matters to me. And the first four picks are gonna be so easy 'cause all four teams have four picks in the top a hundred. I don't think anything crazy is gonna happen.
That'll be the fastest four picks of the draft. But once you start getting to the guys with two, Atlanta has two….that's not good. Pittsburgh has two. Minnesota has two, the Rams have two, Detroit has two and Washington has two. They might be looking for another pick in the top a hundred.
Voice of God (No not John Facenda): Are you ready? Let's get it started. The 2025 Movin’ The Chains Mock Draft….Find out who Jim and Pat have your favorite team drafting. Let's head down to the draft floor where Jim Miller is standing by with a first overall pick.
Miller: So the Tennessee Titans, I'll be quick with the with the stats on the teams areas of need and maybe how the draft picks really, really will affect this teams and how they will be really impact players, for the selection.
The number one pick overall this year goes to the Tennessee Titans. Their record last year, they were three and 14 last in the AFC South. Pat last week had them selecting Abdul Carter and I believe they added Joe Flacco as their quarterback. Flacco is now a Cleveland brown as he signs there today. So, hey, I think the, the pick has gotta be in for the Tennessee Titans. They don't wanna trade this pick. Why would they trade the pick when they are gonna draft…
Cam Ward The best quarterback in this year's draft.
Miller: Outta University of Miami. Who knows, maybe later in this draft Will Levis potentially could be traded because as we know, the Tennessee Titans already signed a veteran and that would be Brandon Allen plus they haveTim Boyle on the roster as well. But Cam Ward quarterback outta University of Miami can do a little bit of everything. More of a pocket passer. But yeah, I keep on saying if you go back to the Washington State game or late Washington State, when he was there prior to transferring to Miami, he could move pretty well when he was a little bit lighter and a little bit leaner. So Cam Ward off the board that leaves
The Cleveland Browns with the number two overall selection.
Miller continues:They were three and 14 a season ago, last in the AFC North. They got issues on both sides of the ball offensively. Total offense, they were 28th, , 19th on defense, signed Joe Flacco. Today they traded for Kenny Pickett because as we know, quarterback is a need… edge rusher is also a need. Abdul Carter has gone number two overall before, but there's been a lot of consternation of who will be the second overall selection. Pat gave a great nugget yesterday receiving texts we're the hand placement of Abdul Carter. Is he strong enough against the run? So the pick is in for the Cleveland Browns with the….Number two overall selection with the Cleveland Browns will select …
Travis Hunter, who many believe is the best athlete in this draft
Miller continues: Wide receiver, cornerback. Hey we know Jim Schwartz. He's gonna start him off on the defensive side of the ball. Believe he's gonna be a difference maker. Abdul Carter now is falling in this draft. So the Giants are up with the third overall selection. This will be Pat's pick. This is why he deferred to make all these kind of moves. So the Giants, they were three and 14 last in the NFC East 30th on offense, 24th on defense. Pat, they got a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball. What are you thinking for the New York Giants?
Kirwan: Well I'm just gonna come clean with you Jim. I made up that story about he couldn't handle blockers just to see if he'd fall a three . , I took him as the number one pick last week and you took the bait on that and Abdul Carter falls right in my lap. So why would the Giants, here's another problem. I'm not gonna say need all the time. Sometimes you gotta take the best player on the board. Abdul Carter was number one on my board. So the pick is in James….with the third overall pick, the New York Giants will be taking the best pass rusher in the draft….
Abdul Carter out of Penn State, no brainer.
Miller: Abdul Carter out of Penn State. Hey they've had a lot of good rushers, obviously Chop Robinson has come out lately, but Abdul Carter. W that just a ruse about the hand placement and not showing up against the run or being able to stop the run?
Kirwan: Well you'll never know until the two rounds are over then I'll come clean. No, it was the truth. I got it from somebody. But when you started citing it as why you didn't take him after I took 'em first in the draft, I always thought I'd throw that in there just to create some doubt in your mind. Let's move on to pick number four. This is an interesting pick. It was Travis Hunter last week cause we put Shedeur to the Giants and all of a sudden Travis dropped to four. Interestingly enough, that's not happening this time. And the story about Shedeur will go on all day and we'll see where he lands up. Would I bet on him falling to the second round in this draft? I wouldn't bet against it.
Alright, new England's on the board. Everyone knows what they need. They need a left tackle badly. What have they done in the draft so far? They took Will Campbell the first time they took Travis Hunter the second time. Hunter's gone.
Will Campbell's there and the pick is in.
Kirwin: I could give a damn about his 33 inch arms. This guy has started 38 straight games. In fact, all of the games in college, he never missed one from the day he left high school. He walked on the field, he was the left tackle for LSU. He does not give up sacks. His sack ratio was ridiculous. I think it was one every 377 pass plays was a sack. And with that, the New England Patriots are very happy to plug Will Campbell into the left tackle spot.
Miller: Alright, so Campbell….the first tackle is off the board. We've talked about the Bears at 10. Is that where another tackle goes? Clearly could the Bears get up to get that. Certainly the G-men or maybe the Patriots would not trade out of that spot. The top tackle is now a New England Patriot.
Jacksonville Jaguars at the five hole and we look at Jacksonville, Pat they were 4-13 third in the AFC South. Again, issues they got obviously Liam Cohen comes over as the new head coach. They gotta get Trevor Lawrence right. But what's even worse is their defense. Pat, they were 31st in league and they were tied for 27th in scoring. I think it's all on the table for the Jaguars. But what say you at the five spot?
Kirwan: I say nothing. It's your pick (confusion reigns)
Miller: Oh, it's my pick. What am I thinking here? Well, Jacksonville…
That where I'm at. …So when I look at Jacksonville, well one I was thinking cornerback could be on the mix and but Pat, I do think the defense is one that needs probably the, the biggest additions of all. And what we did last week is I like the big beefy defensive tackle, that they added. So the pick is in for the Jacksonville Jaguars with the fifth overall selection. The Jacksonville Jaguars select….
Kenneth Grant defensive tackle.
Miller: Pat you had him at 340 pounds. All they need to stop the run. They also just need to get better overall and they've gotta get more physical. So Kenneth Grant now off the board to the Jacksonville Jaguars, that leaves the Las Vegas Raiders on the clock with the six spot
Raiders, 4-13 a season ago they were last in the AFC West. Certainly Pete Carroll, I do think he's gonna be a difference maker out there in how this division plays out. But they were 27th over on offense. Total Defense, they were 15th overall, but they were tied for 25th in scoring. Certainly now by adding Geno Smith, quarterback potentially off the board. But there are ties to Shedeur Sanders and the Las Vegas Raiders certainly (need) wide receiver. Running back is in the mix and of course cornerback is in the mix. So for the Las Vegas Raiders with the six overall selection, the pick is in With the six overall selection. Pat, the Las Vegas Raiders will again be selecting running back from Boise State….
Ashton Jeanty is now a Las Vegas Raiders.
They need explosive plays. Think of Geno Smith just checking the ball down, their ability to run the football. And of course just in Pete Carroll's what's always been in his mantra, he wants workhorse backs. And I do think Jeanty is definitely a workhorse back. So that puts the Jets on the clock.
With the seventh overall selection the Jets ….
Miller: 5-12, third in the AFC East total offense. They were 24th in the league defense. Obviously Aaron Glenn takes over as the the new head coach. So Pat, what direction are you thinking about? What are the needs for the New York Jets?
Kirwan: Yeah, the Jets. I have offensive lines specifically right Tackle. We know there's a big right tackle out there. Tight end wide receiver and safety. That's four needs. …I am gonna guarantee that I get the best players on the board and and maybe not react to my needs, but in this case it works out pretty good. They have three picks in the top a hundred. They go again at 42 and 73. We know Membou went to him in the first mock draft. We know Tyler Warren, my pick went to him in the second mock draft. And the pick is in, oh yeah, with the seventh overall pick Jets entertain. No phone calls for this pick. We interviewed him the other day. He's all business. …this another Penn Stater? Is Penn State really dominating the top? It sure looks like it.
Tyler Warren. The big tight end is heading now.
Kirwin continues: You want Justin Fields to do well. Get him a big tight end running crossing routes in front of him that'll increase his completion and maybe give him a reason to stay in the pocket a little longer. Tyler Warren heading to the New York Jets. Interviewed him yesterday. Really like everybody just raves about his character, his work ethic. So it was a trio of guys that they were working in there. But Tyler Warren was really the focal piece.
This leaves, the Carolina Panthers on the clock with the eighth overall selection.
Miller: Carolina season ago, 5-12, third in the NFC South total offense. They were 29th in the league last in total defense. Plenty of work to do, but did finish on a high note for their head coach. And so let's see where Dave Canales and this group is going. Pat.
Carolina, what do you think of their needs at the eighth overall selection.
Kirwan: I have them for all defense for the top four needs. Pass, rusher, defensive tackle, safety and cornerback. the picks so far for these guys, unusual I would think. And Tyler Warren was the first one that went there. And then Mason Graham who fell to them in the second mock draft, was the second time they picked. They have three picks in the top a hundred. This of all the teams so far was the hardest for me to select the guy I want, but the draft kind of fell for me the way it makes it easier. So the pick is in like everybody including me wants to get that outside pass rusher takeover for the guy they lost in Burns. But I cannot pass on….
Mason Graham, the Michigan tackle.
He's the three technique, we all know and I really do like Ken Grant. But the three technique and a lot of guys say is the best three technique. A little bit on the short arms. Not great sack production, but very disruptive. Mason Graham going to the Carolina Panthers.
The New Orleans Saints are on the clock, No. 9
Miller: So for the New Orleans Saints a season ago they were 5-12 and last in the NFC South. Total offense, they were 21st overall in the NFL, they were 30th overall on defense, obviously Dennis Allen moves on to become the defense coordinator of Chicago Bears and now it will be Kellen Moore taking over as the head coach. Certainly general manager Mickey Loomis. And there's been a lot of talk. Could this be the spot for the New Orleans Saints? 'cause I don't have this as really a priority on their list. They need edge rushers, they need wide receivers. Tight end is in the mix. We got Loveland from Michigan who is sitting there. Right now cornerback would be on the mixing defensive tackle. But no, I believe the pick is in right now. So the pick is in. Alright, with the ninth overall select selection, the New Orleans Saints will be taking, that's right…..
Shedeur Sanders to the New Orleans Saints
And Pat, they've got Spencer Rattler as the backup. It was up and down last year. … So Kellen Moore worked out a deal for Derek Carr. Could it just be one and done? And now he's developing a young quarterback under Kellen Moore. Heard offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur of the Colorado Buffaloes coming on Sirius XM airwaves just raving about the accuracy, the leadership of Sanders…. doesn't have to play right away. Bring 'em along the right way. Now Sanders off the board to the New Orleans Saints.
That leaves the
Chicago Bears on the clock with the 10th overall selection
Miller: Last year, Bears 5-12. They make changes across the board. New head coach will be Ben Johnson. They were last overall in the league in total offense. They were 27th on defense. I got my marching orders yesterday by hardcore Michelle out there in Oregon. This is a need that already needs to…. address the interior of their offensive line, but I definitely think offensive tackle is in the mix. You already took the best one in Will Campbell. So the pick is in for the Chicago Bears with the 10th overall selection ….
The Chicago Bears will select Texas offensive tackle -- Calvin Banks is off the board.
So that leaves the San Francisco 49ers on the clock. They were 6-7 a season ago. They were last in the NFC. So as for the 49 ers, what are you thinking here, Pat for the San Francisco 49ers.
Kirwin: Yeah, it's interesting. Between San Francisco and Dallas, which is my next pick, both teams have 10 picks in this draft and both have three in the top a hundred. So they're not taking any calls from anybody. They're gonna be able to get what they want in the draft because Shedeur Sanders is gone. That leaves another player non quarterback, which, neither team is looking for a quarterback at this point. So it kind of brightens up the list a little bit for them. San Francisco, we had a linebacker both times that went here. Walker went first and then Jihad Campbell went second and that might be the case, but I don't think so. And then Dallas will get to after that, but so they've taken two linebackers. They're sitting here. Shedeur Sanders to me has helped this because one of the guys I didn't think would fall to me. Just did. And the pick is in. We all know San Francisco loves running that football and they wanna be able to be a power run team and we like the way they do it. So they are going to select the big right offensive tackle. …
That’s it here, folks. The top ten, with the 49ers on the bubble, which will get agitate my friend Phil Stumpo, who emailed me something about a trade up to No. 3. I think that’s what it was. I seem to remember a recent trade up to No. 3 that didn’t go so well. Phil knows that, but he’s repeating stuff others are saying. Right, Phil?

Speaking of which ….
Frank, in the contest that is the "Mock Draft" race, no one knows anything...it's all a matter of educated, opinionated guessing. My message had to do more with the Giants trading DOWN than the Niners trading up...Giants are smart enough to know that Sanders is not a top five draft pick, but at # 11 they can justify taking him while accruing more picks in a fruitful draft, and still picking in a decent spot...besides, if Sanders isn't there for them, Dart (whom NYGs may prefer anyway) certainly will be!
