CFB Week 13: Upsets, Change in AP Top 25
Bama, Ole Miss, Indiana among the victims; All scores, stats here
College Football’s dull-looking Week 13 schedule exploded dramatically with upsets that shook up the AP’s Top 25 and will undoubtedly reshape the College Football Playoff ratings as we close in on that first 12-team bracket.
End of the day, the ACC emerged in a more dominant position than the heralded SEC regarding CFP possibilities.
No. 2 Ohio State handed a beatdown to unbeaten No. 5 Indiana early in the day while Florida shocked almost everybody by knocking off No. 9 Ole Miss.
But wait, there’s more. …
As the tumultuous day continued, No. 7 Alabama managed only three points at previously 5-5 Oklahoma; No. 14 BYU fell at No. 21 Arizona State; No. 16 Colorado was overcome at Kansas, and No. 15 Texas A&M lost in four overtimes at unranked Auburn.
Alabama and Ole Miss fell out of the top 10 of the Associated Press Top 25 poll on Sunday, while Miami and SMU moved into the top 10 following a chaotic weekend in the SEC and across college football in general.
Oregon is No. 1 for the sixth straight week and Ohio State, Texas and Penn State held their places behind the Ducks, who are the last unbeaten team.
The shuffling begins at No. 5, where Notre Dame returned for the first time since Week 2 after beating Army for its ninth straight win.
If we still had that old four-team, much of what happened Saturday would be irrelevant. Ole Miss would have been eliminated long ago, and we would be debating whether the ACC’s champion or Notre Dame deserved the final spot in a playoff foursome including Oregon, Ohio State, and the SEC’s champion.
Previously unbeaten Indiana failed its only test of the season against a valid playoff-caliber team in Columbus. But Hoosier fans can still be excited about their football team even as their basketball team is playing, which is unusual.
"The answer is so obvious," Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti said before winking and nodding when asked whether Indiana should still be considered a playoff team after its 38-15 loss.
