2025 Draft: Siriusly good Talk Mock
Great show as Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller take turns picking.
(This is the first in a series of stories about mock drafts. This one features a mock from Sirius Radio XM’s Movin’ The Chains. During the next week, we will highlight the intriguing history of mock drafts from birth to the ubiquitous nature of these guesstimates that clog every extension of our multimedia world.)

Before we dive into this mock from Movin’ the Chains, I will repeat a lingering question that seems to rank right up there with “How many Angels can dance on the head of a pin?”
Is a mock draft supposed to predict which players teams will take, or is the mocker declaring which players should go to which teams, from the mocker’s perspective?
After quizzing numerous mockers with that multiple choice question, I learned that the answer is a resounding — ah, yes!
With that prickly detail settled, let’s dive into one mock that is better than most from Sirius XM radio’s Movin’ the Chains. This is not necessarily because it nails the selections. It is because co-hosts Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller are the PBJ comfort food in this niche.
Kirwan and Miller combine insight on teams and players along with historical and hysterical reflections in a great on-air talk mock.
They had their first mock of the year last Friday. It featured Kirwan, a former team exec whose reality checks can be hard-edged, and Miller, a former NFL quarterback whose details and humor are special infotainment. They alternated picks.

We listened to the whole show and, in the interest of sharing, used their Sirius XM app to transcribe the show. Four hours of transcription is a lot! I split the editing task with our James Hicks, known for Hicks Picks. Please appreciate that the spoken language on a fluid radio show does not transcribe into well-written English.
This is fast-moving banter, complete with colloquialisms and the usual football vernacular. But you will get it. That’s why you are here.
Three, two, one —You’re on
Miller: Are you ready? Let's get it started. We arrived in Green Bay last night. Pat had a wonderful time mixing it up with the locals.
The Tennessee Titans are on the clock.
Miller: They were 3-14 last year in the NFC South. pat. They got a lot of work to do. Defensively weren't too bad. They were second overall in their defense, but boy, they were 26 overall in offense. … 27th in scoring. … 26th in their passing offense. They were tied for 27th in giving up sacks as well. Tied for last in turnovers as an offense. We know whether it was Will Levis or Mason Rudolph. Hey man, the quarterback was turning over the football so it starts and stops there. …their phone's been ringing, their phone's been ringing. Everybody's been for the last month since we were at the Indianapolis Combine. No, we're, we're not taking those calls. We don't wanna hear about the pack of picks that we're gonna get, 'cause we've gotta solve our quarterback problem at the end of the day.
The pick is in And with the first pick of the 2025 NFL SiriusXM, NFL mock draft of “Movin’ the Chains,” the Tennessee Titans will select
Cam Ward, University of Miami quarterback.
Miller: Pat you and I interviewed him at the Indianapolis Combine. Hey, what do you not like? He's gotten better every year. Yes, he was at three different schools. Last year. At Miami he had over 4,300 yards, 39 touchdowns, seven interceptions. …he's probably the most talented arm in this draft.
No. 2 - The Cleveland Browns are on the Clock
Miller: They were three and 14 a season ago. Last in the AFC North. They got woes on both offense and defense. Total offense, they were 28th in the league scoring. They were last in the NFL defensively scoring. They were tied for 27th. But some of these, uh, sta statistics, both offensively and defensively, they were some of the last in the the league. So there was a lot of work for the Cleveland side, and that leaves you on the clock with the second overall selection.
Kirwan: Yeah, you're not gonna solve all your issues in one pick…. and you can move down if you want to. They're not moving down. It's too clear to them what to do. We anticipated you'd take the guy that was 15th on my draft board, Cam Ward and we're all set. We don't need to see him work out.
We're taking Abdul Carter.
He had 23 sacks. He's the best pass rusher in the draft. Those four force fumbles. The 13 pass breakups is another interesting component to this guy. 23 sacks, 173 tackles. This is a no brainer. Now we have the guy opposite miles. Think about that. Miles is gonna get the double and, and the slide and his slants all the time. The guy should have 10 seconds as a rookie. Mr. Carter, he's a Cleveland Brown
First team, All-American again does not work out today. And why should he? He is the most explosive pass rusher in this draft. Penn State does kick out a lot of explosive players and now they have one there in Cleveland. That is gonna be a fierce, fierce pass rush.
No. 3 - New York Giants on the clock
They were 3-14 a season ago. Last in the NFC East. Pat, again, you look at these offensive numbers — it was woeful. Yeah, certainly quarterback is an issue. They just signed Russell Wilson. Obviously Jameis Winston's gonna be the backup there. But, total offense, they were 30th in the league. They were 30th in scoring, 23rd in rushing the football. They were 28th in passing. And it gets worse and worse if I were to continue to go down.
But you can't ignore the defense either. They were bad there too. They were 24th overall defensively stopping the run. Pathetic. They were 27th there. How about turnovers? Couldn't get any turnovers. They were 28th in the league defensively, uh, getting turnovers. Pat, a lot of people are gonna be concerned because — should they be addressing their quarterback woes? I mean they just shipped out of town, Daniel Jones — you got him as what could be the Comeback Player of the Year for the Indianapolis Colts here in 2025. But man, I think it's too high. You, what'd you say Cam Ward was ranked, you had him 15th on your board. 15th.
Kirwan: Yes, sir.
Miller: What do you have? Shedeur Sanders. Pat?
Kirwan: That’s none of your business.
I gotta get my, scouting department to get on that. Let's see if you can pick them. Get the guys over there. Start. What do we need? We need our, our guy, uh, our, our spy out there on the West coast. Do me a Pink Panther. Get Pink Panther on the case. Find out what Pat Kirwan knows about Shedeur Sanders because we need to get the intel on that. But nonetheless the pick is in the pick is in for the Giants.
With the third overall selection of the MTC mock draft No. 1, the New York Giants will be selecting …
Travis Hunter, cornerback
Yeh. H'e’s outta Colorado. Great, Pat. 6-1, 185. We talked about his size. I like him as a corner over receiver. As the year goes along, you can experiment with the skills of Hunter. But Pat, you look at him, 13 games, 13 starts. Hey, he's really check-marked almost every box. Four interceptions had the pass breakups. He was a double digits there as well. And as a receiver, he blows it outta the gym there, as well. He had 96 receptions over 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns. But I choose to play him on the defensive side of the ball to start.
No. 4 - New England Patriots are on the clock.
Miller: They were 4-13 a season ago. Last in the a AFC East. Boy, these numbers — that's why these teams are picking high, folks. Their numbers are bad both offensively and defensively. Total defense or total offense. They were 31st in the league scoring. They were 30th — dead last — in passing in the NFL. In third downs, they were 29th.
Now defensively, if you were to look at 'em, they were 23rd at stopping the run. Third downs — couldn't get off the field. They were tied for 26th, last dead. Last in sacks in the league. So Pat, it's up to you. What direction do you think the Patriots are going with the fourth overall selection in the mock draft?
Kirwan: This is a no-brainer. Everything I want is still on the board. Now. I would've loved Travis Hunter, but I knew once the Giants signed Russell Wilson, that was not gonna happen. And I will just tell you that to answer your question, at least part of it, Mr. Sanders was below Cam Ward on the board. So if you just want to figure that part out, you can figure out where I think you should go. Okay. I'm down to two players and they're both tackles, one's named Membou and one's named Campbell. I started to really believe [Armand] Membou is a right tackle more than a left tackle. He has got those long arms, but he's only 6-4. Campbell is 6-6, and Campbell, by the way — these are the numbers that sway me towards Campbell — 38 games in college football, 38 starts, his sack ratio is one sack every 377 pass plays in the Southeast Conference, 600-pound squat. I am not worrying about his arms. They must have grown 'cause they went from 32 5/8 to 33 when he measured at LSU. Gimme …
Will Campbell, offensive tackle, LSU
Miller: Man, he reminds me a lot of Matt Light, right? Good feet, strength in the upper body. He can torque and control the defenders. So Will Campbell, the offensive tackle outta LSU. He goes forth overall to the New England Patriots.
No. 5 – The Jacksonville Jaguars on the clock
Miller: They were 4-13 a season ago, third in the AFC South. A season ago they said this is the finest roster that Jacksonville Jaguars have put together. Not so much. So they bring in VP of football ops, Tony Boselli, new general manager, and James Gladstone. Liam Coen now brought in as the new head coach. And, boy, they got the pick of the lot on both the offense and defensive side of the ball, where they lagged big time. They were 25th overall in total offense, 31st in total defense. And it only got worse after that for them defensively. So, Pat, that's where I'm thinking where the Jacksonville Jaguars need their focus. It's on the defensive side of the ball. And, boy, when I'm looking right now, there is a big defensive tackle out of the University of Michigan. He's a powerful guy, Pat, this guy is really powerful. So, yeah, I believe the pick is in for the Jacksonville Jaguars With the fifth overall selection of mock draft number one, the Jacksonville, Jaguar select …
Mason Graham from Michigan
Defensive tackle … he can shed blockers. He just, you know, just throws them out of the way, finds his way to the football. Has a really powerful bull rush also. So Jacksonville [is] gonna get, uh, bigger and better in the trenches. So the pick was in Jacksonville, goes to the defensive side of the ball.
No. 6 – Las Vegas Raiders are on the clock
Miller: Raiders are up, they were 4-13 a season ago, last in the AFC West and of course got a new head coach as well. Pete Carroll comes in as the head coach. Everybody's familiar with what he has done with his resume. John Spytek is the new general manager, Pat. (Editor’s note: Al Davis would love that name --- Spy….Tech) They have holes to fill on the offense and defensive side of the ball as well. Turnovers … typically Pete Carroll's defenses always got a lot of turnovers. The Raiders last year, they were 29th in turnovers that they caused. …They were tied for 25th offensively [in turning the ball over] … They were one of the worst in the NFL — 27th in total offense, 29th in scoring and dead last in rushing the football. That is not what Pete Carroll was looking for. I don't know … could we see a running back, go off the board here?. What are you thinking for the Las Vegas Raiders in the Six hole?
Kirwan: Yeah, I looked at [Boise State’s Ashton] Jeanty and a lot of people for the last month thought that the Raiders will take him. I've said over and over again, I like the depth at running back … doesn't mean they're all as good as him, but they’ve got issues on the defensive side that I'm gonna try to take care of right here. I've been around Pete a long time. I know the things he likes, and I know he likes tall corners, and I know he likes guys that create turnovers. And there is a guy that has six interceptions in the last two years and two of 'em for touchdowns. So the pick is in with pick No. 6. Overall, the Raiders, although I think I would move down in the real world here because I got three or four things I like and I can find someone that might want to come up. I would be looking to do that. The GM's already said he likes draft picks, but with the pick and where we are now, we'll take outta the University of Michigan …
Will Johnson
Miller: Will Johnson. They go cornerback, University of Michigan. Hey, he's a ballhawk as well … That leaves the jets on the clock with the seventh overall selection.
No. 7 – New York Jets are on the clock
Miller: Last year they were 5-12, third in the AFC East. There's a lot on the line as [former Detroit DC] Aaron Glenn comes in to turn this program around. You've got a new general manager as well. This defense held strong for a long time, but again, they log so many plays. But they did finish third overall, defensively. Aaron Glenn is probably gonna like a lot of pieces of the puzzle on that side of the ball, but offensively they lagged. Obviously, they bring in Justin Fields. He seems to be the quarterback as it sits right now. That's a one-year $30 million deal. But they were 24th overall in total offense. They were tied for 24th in scoring, 31st in rushing offenses as well. And as always, Pat, you gotta be able to protect the quarterback. And, of course, Aaron Rogers, he got beat up, last year … So the pick is in for the New York Jets at the seventh overall selection. And the New York Jets will select …
Missouri offensive tackle, Armand Membou
What, what do you do in that pick for Justin Fields? Way too many sacks. So it's gotta get better and they've gotta protect Justin Field. So the Missouri offensive tackle is off the board. That leaves the Carolina Panthers, uh, that are on the clock with the eighth overall pick.
No. 8 - Carolina Panthers are on the clock
Miller: They were 5-12, third in the NFC South. They finished strong, but still there was a lot of work to do on defense. They were dead last in a lot of categories: total defense. They were dead last in scoring defense. They were dead last rushing defense. They were [nearly] dead last offensively 29th, overall 23rd in scoring. So plenty of work to do for the Carolina Panthers. And Pat … what are you thinking for this group, with the eighth overall selection?
Kirwan: I've looked at receivers, the McMillan kid. I've looked at linebackers that can rush the passer, like Walker. I’m warming up to both of those guys. But at the end I think I'm gonna do something I think is gonna help the quarterback the most right now. And it's gonna give him a chance to do some things in the personnel groupings that they have not done as well lately. In my mind, it's time for this quarterback to look like he's ready to go. You can hand him a running back 'cause Jeanty’s out there, but they've got Hubbard and they've got Dowdle. They're gonna get another running back and bump Dowdle to the third spot? So the pick is in Jim. With pick No. 8, the Carolina Panthers are gonna build their 12 personnel package and they are taking …
Tyler Warren, tight end Michigan
Miller: Tyler Warren, Penn State, you mean Penn State? Tight end? … Yeah, [Vegas] just picked the Michigan corner. So Tyler Warren is off the board for the Carolina Panthers … just went over his numbers. This guy even played a little wildcat [offense] and again had over a hundred receptions. And boy he can run the football. He's just angry with the ball every time he touches it at the end of the day.
So that leaves the Saints on the clock at the No. 9 spot.
No. 9 – New Orleans Saints are on the clock
Miller: They were 5-12 a season ago, dead last in the NFC South. Plenty of work to do defensively … They were 30th overall in rushing defense — couldn't stop anything. They were 31st offensively. They struggled as well [in] scoring. They were tied for 24th passing offense. They were 23rd. And Pat, I saw you just took a talented tight end. But, boy … I got [New Orleans] need for a tight end. I've got their needs as an edge. I think they could add another wide receiver … tight end is sitting there for the New Orleans Saints. So the pick is in, Pat, because, maybe you were thinking about this tight end because he plays like a wide receiver … But, boy, he can catch a lot of balls. He also hails from the University of Michigan. He is long, lean and he catches a lot of footballs, 'cause he runs like a wide receiver. He has got big plays in his background. So …
Colston Loveland, Michigan, tight end
Miller: Now off the board, he finds his way to the New Orleans Saints. That leaves the Bears on the clock with the 10th overall selection.
No. 10 – Chicago Bears are on the clock
Miller: They had a record of 5-12 last year, last in the NFC South or NFC North. Excuse me. A lot of work to do for Ben Johnson as he takes over as the head coach. Ryan Poles remains the general manager … Last year they were dead last in total offense scoring. They were 28th rushing offense. They were 25th in passing offense. They were 31st and it goes on and on and on. Defensively … Yeah, they started good, but they logged a ton of plays. Wears them out. They were 27th overall defensively, 28th in stopping the run. Bears have a lot of work to do. So Pat, what are you thinking for the bears at the 10 spot?
Kirwan: Well this is easy for me because we talked about this during the week and you agreed with me and the caller. Stop fooling around — get a left tackle … the next tackle for me has fallen off to the very bottom of this round. So it's now or never. You're not gonna get one like Kelvin Banks the next time around. So the pick is in James, from the University of Texas …
Left tackle Kelvin Banks
Miller: Yeah. Kelvin Banks. The Bears solidify their offensive line. Hey, now Caleb Williams — maybe he's gonna have some time to really make some throws and find his receivers. But, boy, this offense is gonna be structured differently. But we know how Detroit was built with Ben Johnson there. They had that strong offensive line. Now the Bears with what they've done in free agency and now add Kelvin Banks into the mix at left tackle. The Bears have a little legitimate shot with that young quarterback. So that leaves San Francisco on the clock with the 11th overall selection.
No. 11 – San Francisco 49ers are on the clock
Miller: Last year they were 6-11, last in the NFC West. Yeah, let me repeat that — last in the NFC West four. The San Francisco 49ers. But offensively they were awesome, man. They were still fourth overall in the NFL. [In terms of rushing] They were just outside of the top 10 there [12th]. They were fourth in the NFL in passing. Third downs, not a problem. Problem is way too many turnovers … Or they were 27th in the league in turnovers and then defensively could not get the sacks. They were tied for 23rd. So I'm looking at the needs. Yeah, cornerback, defensive tackle. I think edge rusher is in the mix here. Linebacker, potentially, is on the list here. And, Pat, there's a linebacker … you and I have talked to this guy. Plus he's done a little bit of edge rushing as well. Oh yeah, so the pick is in — the pick is in. Yes, with the 11th overall selection of “Movin’ the Chains,” mock draft No. 1, the San Francisco 49ers will select …
Edge Rusher Jalon Walker
Pat, he's got pure speed. He can bring explosive counter moves as well. So the Georgia Bulldog is off the board. That leaves the Cowboys on the clock.
No. 12 – Dallas Cowboys are on the clock
Miller: Last year, the Dallas Cowboys were 7-10, third in the NFC East. So Brian Schottenheimer is elevated to [be] new head coach. Yes. the general manager stays the same, as Jerry Jones will be calling the shots. Plus you got Steve Jones [saying] they were gonna be selectively aggressive in free agency. The Cowboys have done that … Last year defensively, they were 28th overall in total defense, 31st in scoring, rushing. They were 29th offensively … with the injury to Dak Prescott. They were 27th in rushing there, 21st in scoring offense, and they were 23rd at converting on third down. So there is room to improve on both sides of the ball. Pat, what are you thinking for the Dallas Cowboys?
Kirwan: Well, this is a mock draft to be (not?) good for them … because the things I wanted them to do [have been] almost exhausted. Like I would've taken a left tackle here. I'm not sure [last year’s top pick] Tyler Guyton qualified to play that spot, but the tackles have gone off the board, and now it's a reach to go to the next tackle. So I have to eliminate that as a first-round pick.
Should I take a running back? They all want Jeanty, but you already signed Jovante Williams and Miles Sanders to protect yourself from doing that. They still could do it, and he's very high up on the board. And what else do I like for those guys? A nose tackle. I'm not a big fan of what's left in the nose tackle business, but they gotta stop the run.
Will I take the [defensive] tackle here? His [Grant] grade is close enough. Let me just put, where do I have him? He is ranked 11th and the running back is ranked fifth. That's the problem. What do I do if I'm playing true to my board? And if I'm true to my board, I'm taking Jeanty right here. But if I have to reach for need, which I don't like breaking those rules, I will take the big nose tackle … And then this is another Michigan player. How many Michigan guys have already gone?
Kenneth Grant Michigan DT
… is the pick. To clog up the middle for Dallas.
Miller: Kenneth Grant, like you said, hey, Mazi Smith [Grant’s former Wolverine teammate] hasn't done it. Kenneth Grant can motivate him a little bit 'cause he's there to potentially take his job … in the middle. If they can get 'em both going. Boy, that would be a good group at stopping the run for the Dallas Cowboys in 2025.
No. 13 – Miami Dolphins are on the clock
Miller: For the Miami Dolphins, they were 8-9 a season ago, second in the AFC East. Their numbers look great — fourth overall in total defense. Yeh, they were a top-10 defense. Except they couldn’t get to the quarterback: 27th in sacks, so edge rusher is on my mind. Turnovers? They were 27th — couldn’t get any turnovers. Maybe that's why you want the safety picked in this spot.
But man, they got a lot of work to do offensively. There were 25th on third downs. Can't move the chains. Ooh, Jeanty. Could he get it done? Pat mentioned is Achane — is he a three-down back that you plan on just utilizing the whole time … But anyway, for the Miami Dolphins, they're on the clock Pat, but the pick is in. The pick is in.
All right, so with the 13th overall selection of mock draft number one on “Movin’ the Chains,” the Miami Dolphins will select …
Jihad Campbell, Alabama linebacker.
And we're gonna use them in a combination of ways to really increase that pass rush in South Florida.
No. 14 – Indianapolis Colts are on the clock
Miller: The Colts are on the clock, Pat. Last year they were 8-9, second in the AFC South … They got, uh, competition going at the quarterback spot. Passing … they were 25th in the league. Turnovers? Way too many offensively. They were tied for 29th. Defensively? A ton of work to do. Twenty-ninth in total defense. They were 24th rushing defense. They were 24th passing defense … So pick anywhere you want defensively. They need a lot of help there. So what are you thinking for the Colts at the 14th spot?
Kirwan: Yeah, I'm pretty serious about, uh, deciding about one of those safeties. Malaki Starks or Emmanwori. But they, they have a need that I think they can solve with one player and, and they can figure out which play he can help the most. And so the pick is in. A little controversial, but I like it for this football team.
Okay, with pick 14, the Indianapolis Colts will skip receiver, they will skip safety and they will take out a North Dakota state …
Grey Zabel, North Dakota State, OL
… who might be the left tackle, he might be the center. He's gonna be the guard to start his career, most likely the right guard. And from there we'll find out where else he can go because he can go everywhere.
Miller: Grey Zabel, North Dakota State interior offensive lineman. Extreme versatility. He was rag dollin’ guys down in Mobile [at the Senior Bowl]. So [I] like the pick, I like the physicality. The Colts lost a couple of linemen to free agency … The Colts got a good one.
No. 15 – Atlanta Falcons are on the clock
Miller: That leaves the falcons on the clock. And where they are selecting right now, I'm looking at the Falcons, Pat … they were 8-9 a season ago, second in the NFC South. Mentioned that a lot of their issues were on the defensive side of the ball. I'm looking at their needs. Yes, edge, we saw a couple of edge rushers just come off the board. I think it's too early to tap into [Marshall’s Mike] Green … there's no reason to even think of running back with [Bijan] Robinson … so no reason to think of Jeanty or Omarion [Hampton] …
Safeties [are] staring me in the face. Still good safeties on the board. No, let's, let's do a guy who does a little bit of everything on defense.
Alright, so the pick is in for the Atlanta Falcons. With the 15th overall selection. The Atlanta Falcons select Texas cornerback — how do you pronounce it? Is it like “Shaday” or “Zaday” Barron? — 4.39 [40 time], Jim Thorpe Award-winner …
Jahdae Barron
That's like Brian Branch of the Detroit Lions. So love this player outta Texas, Pat.
No. 16 – Arizona Cardinals are on the clock
Miller: That leaves the Cardinals on the clock. And for the Cardinals, they had a record of 8-9. They were third in the NFC West. We know what Jonathan Gannon is trying to do. They took steps forward. We think it's wide open out there in the NFC West. Offensively, they were just outside the top 10. Very good categories for Kyler Murray. But, defensively? Still work to do on third down defense; they were 28th in the NFL in yards per play. They were 23rd overall in the NFL. So what are you thinking for the Cardinals at the 16th? Overall selection.
Kirwan: Well, they could use an offensive lineman. They definitely can use a defensive lineman. Uh, and they could use a cornerback. But I'm gonna pass on corner for now. And you wanna start looking at your board. You were in the middle of the first round … Start looking at your board and asking yourself, how can I pass this player and maybe solve some of your other problems later. So with that in mind, do I take the receiver McMillan? Do I take Jeanty? Or do I take an offensive lineman? I am really torn here, but … uh, here we go.
Nick Emmanwori
I'm taking outta South Carolina the safety. Emmanwori is going to the Arizona Cardinals.
Miller: Love the size and what he brings to the table, Pat. And boy, the numbers were terrific. Let's hit the break here. We'll come back, we'll recap the selections all the way up through 16.
No. 17 – Cincinnati Bengals are on the clock
Alright, we are up to the Bengals with the 17th overall selection of mock draft No. 1 on “Movin’ the Chains.” So for the Cincinnati Bengals, I will have the selection. They were 8-9, third in the AFC North a season ago … I had on the list that wide receiver was gonna be one of their big needs, and now that's no longer a need — they get the deal done, they keep the trio intact. And I'm looking at this defense, Pat — we've talked about this defense. They were 25th over overall in total defense: 25th in scoring; 25th in sacks. We know that [DE Trey] Hendrickson wants a bump in pay and, in red zone defense, they didn't fare well either.
So Al Golden comes in as their new defensive coordinator. Very familiar faces as he was with the team, uh, prior to ending up at Notre Dame. But I also looked at their rushing offense. Pat, they were 30th in the league rushing the football. Mm-hmm And boy, they could put up a lot of points. And I'm looking on the board of guys I could pick … Emmanwori is already off the board. Starks is a guy that we could uh, take here as well. But Pat — this guy is too good of a player, too good of a player. He is rated in a lot of mock drafts in the top 10. He is a fun player to watch, there's no doubt about it.
So the pick is in, the pick is in. So with the 17th overall selection of mock draft number one of “Movin’ the Chains,” the Bengals select …
Ashton Jeanty
Oh, Pat, look at this — one-on-ones, nobody can tackle him … You know who I love and who I compare him to — and even Maurice Jones-Drew tweeted out [saying Jeanty] ‘reminds me a lot of me.’ Nobody could tackle him [Jeanty]. He's like a bowling ball. Guys are just bouncing all over him and one-on-one in space. This guy's incredible. So, running back Ashton Jeanty from Boise State … he is off the board to the Cincinnati Bengals.
No. 18 – Seattle Seahawks are on the clock
Miller: That leaves the Seahawks on the clock at 18th overall selection. They were second in the NFC West. Finished with a 10-7 record. We love the weekly with [head coach] Mike Macdonald. Do have some issues on their offense. They were 28th in rushing the ball, but they do have two high draft picks of, uh, running backs there. Obviously [Zach] Charbonnet, they drafted outta UCLA — not they, but the previous regime with Pete Carroll — and of course Kenneth Walker. But sacks — they gave up a lot of sacks offensively, tied for 29th; tied for 24th in turnovers. [GM] John Schneider did talk about building the interior of the offensive line. Defensively, they were 14th overall. And, boy, they finished tied for eighth in sacks, so they could get after the quarterback. But what are you thinking for the Seattle Seahawks at the 18 hole?
Kirwan: Yeah, we've talked about this team quite a bit, and every time we talk about 'em, we tell the world we like the tackles, but we don't like the guys on the inside enough. So it's a no-brainer for me … So this pick is in and this is gonna be a big improvement. Uh, the next pick at 18 Seattle Seahawks are promptly gonna run up and take …
Tyler Booker
… the massive guard out of Alabama. Um, and I think he's a plug-in guy and we'll see him in 10 years.
Miller: Yeh, definitely big thick. He's, uh, really good in terms of his base and everything he does at the second level, as well. So Tyler Booker, Alabama offensive lineman off the board to the Seattle Seahawks.
No. 19 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the clock
Miller: That leaves, uh, me with the Buccaneers. They are on the 19th overall selection. Their record last year, 10-7, first in the NFC South. They had kind of a stranglehold on this division, but it always comes down to the wire in the NFC South … but four division winners in a row, uh, for Tampa Bay, and [we] love what Todd Bowles does defensively. But you gotta say one thing, their pass defense struggled. They were 29th overall in the NFL. It hurt sometimes when their key safety [Antoine Winfield Jr.] went down and you know, that was problematic for them. But I'm looking at guys who are available here to pick, and they always like edge rushers, of course. They like, uh, guys who can are kind of Swiss army knives that can do a lot of things defensively, and I'm looking at their needs.
Um, Pat, man … can Mike Evans play forever? I don't know if he can play forever, but we talked to this young man at the Super Bowl and I mentioned Mike Evans name and this receiver didn't even know who Mike Evans was. I said, dude, you need to go watch tape on Mike Evans 'cause that's who you remind me of. So the pick is in for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 19th overall selection of mock draft number one of MTC to Tetairoa McMillan, wide receiver outta Arizona. 6-5, 219 … Mike Evans can't play forever. So hey, they got a talented player off the board … and now they could have a trio of two big guys on the outside. Godwin works in the middle. Not bad for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
No. 20 – Denver Broncos are on the clock
Miller: Broncos on the clock, Pat. When I see the Broncos, they were 10-7. What a year. They made the playoffs with what they did. [Head coach] Sean Peyton, second year for him. Third in the AFC West lost in the Wild Card Round to the Buffalo Bills. Pat, this was a top-10 defense, seventh overall with [DC] Vance Joseph. Scoring, they were third — man, that was nice. Offensively? They finished 19th, overall. They were top 10 in scoring though, and they were third overall because that young rookie, Bo Nicks, got rid of the ball. Pat, they did not give up a lot of sacks. So what are you thinking for the Broncos and what they will be selecting at 20?
Kirwan: Well, I was considering McMillan, but you took him, and that has to change where my thinking is. Um, so I, my second choice there — which will be my first choice now — is a versatile safety. I like big nickel defenses. Everyone's trying to match up with guys. They've got two nice safeties, but I think in time this will be the best safety. So the pick is in …
Malaki Starks
… is heading to the Denver Broncos.
Miller: Ooh,This guy's a heat seeking missile. He can blitz, he can do a lot of things, and we liked him as football IQ off the board. And he told us about Bloody Tuesdays. We like Bloody Tuesdays … they get physical at the end of the day in how they practice.
No. 21 – Pittsburgh Steelers are on the clock
Miller: The Pittsburgh Steelers, they are now on the clock. Certainly quarterback is a position in need [as is] cornerback. I'm looking at running back. We just saw Jeanty, leave the board as well. [Perhaps] a wide receiver and offensive tackle. Their record a season ago, they were 10-7, second in the AFC North. Again, all their problems were on offense. Defensively — their passing defense did struggle; they were 25th in the NFL. Thus, I mentioned cornerback could be a need for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
But it's all on offense. Will they address the quarterback spot here? Or will they address other areas of their team, 'cause, Pat, I mentioned there's, uh, a lot of good players: We got Shedeur Sanders; [he] could potentially be in the mix here for the Pittsburgh Steelers at the 21st pick overall.
But the pick is in. The pick is in. With the 21st overall selection of the mock draft number one of “Movin’ the Chains,” Pat, they will go, running back out of North Carolina …
Omarian Hampton
He's big. He's athletic. He can get to the corner. He is got the speed. So they address the running back position. Hampton off the board from North Carolina.
No. 22 – Los Angeles Chargers are on the clock
Miller: So that leaves the chargers on the clock with the 22 overall selection. Uh, and you look at the Chargers, they were 11-6 a season ago, second in the AFC West. Hey, nice job by Jim Harbaugh. They lost in the Wild Card Round, uh, to the Houston Texans. That one was on the road. Pat, they were 20th overall on total offense, 11th in total defense. Did lose one of their pass rushers, obviously — Joey Bosa moving on. Their scoring defense: No. 1 in the National Football League. How good was the Chargers defense? And not too bad offensively, but probably looking to crack the top 10. What are you thinking for the LA Chargers?
Kirwan: This is not gonna take very long, but since the NFL likes a drum roll, we'll talk a little bit here. They could be taking a defensive lineman. Uh, I wouldn't fault them for that. They've done a nice job sprinkling in good veteran players, but it's an obvious choice to me. And the pick is in.
Yeah, Jim, they're taking a wide receiver. I've had enough of looking at Quinton Johnson, and Mike Williams is old. McConkey is great, but he's the slot receiver. Who are the guys gonna play the other spots? Uh, their pick is in and his name is …
Luther Burden, Missouri, WR
Big Luther is going there from Missouri.
Miller: Oh, Luther. Man, you look at the Ohio State [receiver] still on the board. You got the Texas wide receivers still on the board, but Luther off the board to the L.A. Chargers that leaves me on the clock with the Green Bay Packers …
No. 23 – Green Bay Packers are on the clock
Miller: Packers, Pat, hard to believe we mentioned it. They were top five in both offense and defensive a season ago. So Jeff Hafley did have a big impact, uh, for the defensive side of the ball. They were 11-6 sixth, third in the NFC North. They lost in the Wild Card Round on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Looking at their needs: cornerback, edge rusher, defensive tackle, center … But Pat, you just went wide receiver [with L.A. Chargers]. And I'm gonna go wide receiver. They did not make the trade, obviously, to get DK Metcalf, but I like this player as a slot receiver. He's big, he's strong, he's physical. Pat, we've talked about it — this guy has the most receptions in Ohio State's history. I mean, think of the guys that have been through there — Njigba up there for Seattle; you got Harrison down there for, uh, the Arizona Cardinals … the pick is in for the Green Bay Packers.
The 23rd overall selection, the Green Bay Packers select and mock draft No. 1 of moving the chains …
Emeka Ebuka
The wide receiver of the Ohio State Buckeyes … We want Jordan Love — [want] more targets for him. They need Christian Watson to step up.
No. 24 – Minnesota Vikings are on the clock
Miller: But now on the clock will be the Minnesota Vikings at the 24 spot. They were 14-3, second in the NFC North … They were, in total defense, 16th overall and 12th overall in total offense. Hey, [they are] hoping that J.J. McCarthy can be the starter, but — way too many sacks they gave up offensively. But they addressed their offensive line. Their worst statistic, defensively, was their passing defense, where they finished 28th overall. But high pressures and they got a lot of signings for Brian Flores, their defensive coordinator. So what are you thinking for the Minnesota Vikings at 24?
Kirwan: They need a safety. We know Harrison's getting old, but the safeties, the two safeties are gone. And I do not have another safety. I'm looking — my next safety shows up around [No.] 49 or 50. So, no, they can't reach for safety. That's when you go back to your board, and you take a player that you think is gonna help you and he's worth taking where you are. So, corners are out there. If I wanna take a corner, I know you went and bought defensive tackles, so that kind of discouraged me from doing that. I'd like to do it. They're not taking a quarterback. Their guy's gonna be ready to roll here. You can never go wrong if you take a big guy. And I was just talking to uh, the Commish over there, Scotty. And here's his quote. ‘You can always find a role for a pass rusher. If he's the highest ranked player, take him.’ And with that being said, uh, I will go to the board here. And this is a guy I wanted for another team, but the board says take him now, and I will. Uhh, the pick is in for Minnesota. Now, you talk about a team that you can say you never have enough pass rushers. Well, they're gonna be one of the teams that you can never have enough pass rushers. They're gonna be loaded. But here he comes from Tennessee …
James Pierce
… is heading to Minnesota.
Miller: Ooooh, one of Pat's favorites goes ahead of Mykel Williams. Obviously, the Georgia Edge rusher. Mike Green on the board, outta Marshall. But James Pierce now finds himself a Minnesota Viking. So, hey, I like him Pat, he what? He run a 4.47, something ridiculous like that?
Kirwan: He ran 4.47, and the guy is all over the place. Now, he's athletic enough to play standing up and will be big enough to play down. So we'll see where they [put him]. But they've got a lot of good players. What they now don't have to do is pay a pass rusher, when there's an expiring contract, because we just saw it $40 million gets you, they will be able to protect themselves against that. But … I thought James would be gone by now. And he's here, so I take him.
Miller: It’d be nice to see him in the defense of Brian Flores.
No. 25 – Houston Texans are on the clock
Miller: So that leaves the Houston Texans on the clock, Pat. A record of 10-7 a season ago, they were first in the AFC South. They lost in the Divisional Round on the road against, uh, the Kansas City Chiefs. Did give up way too many sacks. Offensive line — it's gotta be in the mix. What did, uh, [Houston GM] Nick Caserio say? Man, it was just like toxic in that offensive line room. Plus the red zone? They couldn't score either. They were 26th overall in the NFL. Same with their defense. That was, they were a top-six defense, but the red-zone defense, they were ranked 27th in the NFL.
Houston Texans. I'm looking at their needs. Oh, wide receiver. Well they worked that, uh, trade for, uh, [Christian] Kirks from Jacksonville offensive guard's. Gotta be in the mix here. Defensive tackle, cornerback or O-tackle. So it's all on the board here. But, Pat, he's my highest rank player on the board right now. This is an easy pick for me. The pick is in for the Houston Texas.
You know, you went with your man Luther and I'm gonna roll mm-hmm. With outta University of Texas, the wide receiver. Oh, you went with Luther — I'm sorry. I took the wrong guy … let me switch my pick here, Pat. I am going, oh, I'm, I see …
Kirwan: The clock is running. If he can't get it in within 30 seconds, I'll be running up with my name.
Miller: Well, here it is, pat. I'm gonna go with, oh, this is getting edgy here … There he is, right there.
Derrick Harmon, Oregon, Defensive Tackle —
…. Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon. That is a need for the Houston Texans. And now it's fulfilled.
No. 26 – Los Angeles Rams are on the clock
Miller: That leaves the L.A. Rams on the clock, and the Rams with the 26th overall selection. 10-7 a season ago. They were first in the NFC West, lost in the Divisional Round at the Philadelphia Eagles. Defensively — total defense — they were 26th overall in the NFL. Offensively, struggled to run the football. They were 24th and, plus red zone offense, they were 25th in the NFL. Like to know the needs of what you're thinking for the Rams, Pat, and who will be your selection with the 26th overall spot?
Kirwan: Yeah, I'm looking for a right tackle. I don't feel comfortable about anyone that's still on the board. They all have second-round grades in that group, but we knew this was gonna happen. So did the Chiefs. They're gonna be down there in a little while, and they know it's gonna happen. That's the first place I was looking.
Nose tackle? Can I find a big nose tackle? I think I can get a big-body guy, but I think at those kinda guys are gonna get available in the second round. I've got defensive tackles lined up over there, so I'll be patient on that one. Um, and where else would I go? Inside linebacker will, we took the two inside linebackers. The guys I like will be, uh, second round guys, Stutzman and Basa. So not gonna go there.
So Jim, the pick is in … Are you sitting down?
Miller: I am sitting down Pat.
Kirwan: Okay, well the pick is in and, uh, he is going to be on this team and developed by this coach …
Shedeur Sanders, Colorado, QB
… Sanders is going to the Rams.
Miller: I like the pick of Sanders to the Rams. I've been calling that. I think they need to develop a guy. Obviously, you got Jimmy Garoppolo as the backup should — hey, he (Sanders) is an accurate passer. He is a pocket passer, much like, uh, Matthew Stafford. I think it's a perfect fit. And I like Sean McVay working with him. Uh, Pat, I love the landing spot. We talked about it earlier in the week and, hey, maybe in the green room, he's upset that he's dropping. Don't be. You got one of the best play callers in the National Football League. And hey, let's face it, Matthew Stafford can't play forever. Love Shedeur Sanders to the L.A. Rams.
No. 27 – Baltimore Ravens are on the clock
Well, hey, [head coach] John Harbaugh — he's feeling good. Just got a three-year extension. Hey, you know, they've had nothing but success there. For Baltimore, a season ago, they were 12-5, first in the AFC North. They've been knocking at the door to return to the Super Bowl. They lost at the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round. But look at this team. They're first overall in total offense. Third in scoring. Offensively, I mean, they're top five in every category.
Defensively. Pat, they're a top-10 defense. They're ninth in scoring. They were first in stopping the run — but they gotta get better at stopping the pass. And I look at their needs as a team: yeah, wide receiver, edge rusher, safety is in the mix here. And, Pat, when I'm looking at this team, boy and Shedeur Sanders just off the board, I was thinking about taking him there, uh, potentially. But I wanna cultivate the edge rushers, Pat. That's what I'm thinking. So the pick is in for the Baltimore Ravens.
With the 27th overall selection, the Baltimore Ravens will select …
Mykel Williams, Georgia, Edge rusher
He's a junior, Pat. Boy, they're gonna love it. Nothing but defense here for the Ravens. And so now Detroit will be on the clock right now.
No. 28 – Detroit Lions are on the clock
Miller: For Detroit, they were 15-2, first in the NFC North. They lost in the Divisional Round to the Washington Commanders. Top 10 on offense. They finished second overall, first in scoring. That's all you need to know. Defensively pass rush, pass rush, pass rush. They were 23rd in sacks, the injury — supposedly have [DE Aidan] Hutchinson coming back. He posted a thing on social media; he's running full speed. Passing defense, they were 30th, but they gave up too many big plays. They finished 23rd there, Pat. What are you thinking for the Detroit Lions with the 28th overall selection?
Kirwan: I was holding my breath on your pick right before me and I was really getting a little nervous. I was gonna lose the guy I wanted, but he's here, he's coming. He had 17 sacks last year. Outta Marshall …
Mike Green, Marshall, Edge
… is coming to the team.
Miller: Love Mike Green. Really explosive and a productive edge rusher. So, hey, you know — everybody can say ‘level of competition,’ Pat — the guy stands out, he's over 250 pounds, so I think he checks the boxes there. So, the Detroit Lions, a fine selection there.
No. 29 – Washington Commanders are on the clock
Miller: The Washington Commanders. What a season in 2024: 12-5, second in the NFC East. They lost in the Championship Game to the Philadelphia Eagles. Well, their rushing defense. I'm thinking, Hey, could they get interior defensive help? Uh, really, there worst statistic on offense — this was a top 10 offensive season ago — way too many sacks for them, as they tied for 25th, but feel they are pretty good on the offensive side of the ball.
All their [are] issues on the defensive side of the ball. Think about the tackling versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Nobody could bring down that talented running back Saquon Barkley plus big plays. Think of that 60-yard touchdown run. Everybody was looking at the, the name plate of, uh, Saquon Barkley in that game. And as always, we like to think we can add more edge rushers, 'cause they re-signed some guys — they re-signed. A lot of guys. Obviously we look at Fowler. He's been a staple in this defense for Dan Quinn.
But Pat, uh, I do believe the pick is in for the Washington Commanders. Alright with the 29th overall selection, the Washington Commanders will select edge rusher out of Texas A&M …
Shamar Stewart
So long, dynamic — doesn't have a lot of sack production. Pat, we talked about it. Early pulls … He pulls out of the Reese's Senior Bowl, but, boy, he can get to the quarterback and disrupts a lot of things offensively [even] without the sack production — is effective in really moving the pocket, moving the quarterback, I should say — and is strong with those long arms and how he's able to lock out.
So the pick is in and now the Buffalo bills will be on the clock.
No. 30 – Washington Commanders are on the clock
Miller: And for Buffalo they were 13-4, first in the AFC East. They lost to the chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. Top-10 offense. Nothing to see here. I mean, they rushed the ball extremely well. How about [RB James] Cooks with the 16 touchdowns? They were top 10 rushing the ball as well. Josh Allen, a big part of that too.
Passing defense — they struggled. They were 24th overall. Third down defense — they struggled. They were 29th overall. Pat, what are you thinking for the Buffalo Bills looking to break through in 2025?
Kirwan: Yeah, well I looked at the corners. Azareye'h Thomas [Florida State], for starters. Benjamin Morrison [Notre Dame], there's two of them right there. The kid from East Carolina. So there are a lot of corners left. Maxwell Hairston [Kentucky], the kid who ran 4.28. So, I'm gonna pass on corner, and hope to pick up one later.
Uh, what I'm gonna do is look right at my board. And here's one guy, this — I can't believe he's still here. I thought he'd go around No. 17 or 18, but the pick is in. From the University of Mississippi or “Ole Miss” as they like to say it …
Walter Nolen, defensive lineman
He was the No. 1 kid coming outta high school. Didn't really live up to that. Had to transfer out of a school and come to Mississippi where he had his best year. Walter Nolan will join the — what do you wanna call it? — the defensive line probably can place him end as well as tackle.
Miller Saw him down a Mobile (Ala.), Pat. Very lean in what … just how he looks. There was not a lot of fat on him. We interviewed him. He was sitting there at midfield. I mean, I was like, ‘man, is that a linebacker’? I mean, this guy's a really good player in probably his best football is ahead of hinm.
Kirwan: And he’s at 305, that's 305 looking like that. So it's, it's impressive. We're at the bottom of the first round. A big guy that can move, um, then played well at Mississippi. There's enough reason to put him on the roster and make sure you have four tackles, if you're rolling them through. He will make it and be one of those guys. So that's my pick for them. Walter Nolan.
No. 31 – Kansas City Chiefs are on the clock
Miller: Well that leaves the Super Bowl runner up. The Kansas City Chiefs. They are on the clock at 31. Overall 15-2. First in the AFC West. Lost in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles. Andy Reid and [GM] Brett Veach just continue to do it. Hey, they were a top-10 defense. Their third-down defense needs to get better. They were tied for 26. But, boy, this group, not bad. Chris Jones — still at it. Uh, they develop and draft and develop guys as good as anybody.
Offensively, for Kansas City. We know it was the O-line. Pat, on my knees. O-tackle, offensive guard. O-tackle offensive guard. They do need a DT tackle and a good one just went off the board, as you mentioned, Walter Nolen. Pat, I don't wanna reach for an offensive lineman. I don't wanna do it. I'm thinking I love Josh Simmons, the Ohio State guy. Pat, we interviewed him, but he's coming off an ACL. Can they really be patient and deal with that with the season-ending injury right there. Probably in the real world. I'm taking calls. I'm probably trading out of this spot, but no trades in the first mock draft …
So the pick is in, and I do believe for the Kansas City Chiefs, it would do them a lot of favors. Pat, if they take an offensive tackle when he's a junior, he is an underclassman. They're gonna have to bring him along pretty quickly. Let's go Josh Connerly Jr. Offensive Tackle outta the University of Oregon. He's got quick feet, Pat. Good hands. Andy Reid's gonna mess with this group or mix it up with this group. Andy Heck, the O-line coach. He does a fine job, but they are finally gonna attack this tackle position and make it competitive.
So Connerly added to the mix. Kingsley [Suamataia] you better pick it up now. The Eagles will be on the clock with the final selection of mock draft No. 1. Hey, this is the world champs, 14-3, first in the NFC East … Pat, they were No. 1 overall defense, eighth overall in total offense. Their worst statistic, offensively, was passing the ball. But, boy, they got right when it mattered the most in the postseason. They were 29th in passing the ball all year long. But top 10 on both sides of the ball. What are you thinking? To close it out, mock draft No. 1.
No. 32 – Philadelphia Eagles are on the clock
Well, they know they're the world champs and they know that people are gonna, they're gonna have the lead on people and they know that they're gonna find themselves in nickel defense rushing a, an offense that's trying to catch them. That's the old Bill Walsh theory. When you know you're good, build your sub defense, which I have never forgotten. So I'm gonna keep that in mind as I make this last pick of the first round.
And Jim, sometimes when we work here, we learn stuff that we really need. And I learned a lot about one guy and he is gonna be a Philadelphia Eagle. When the GM Howie goes up to that college and visits with the head coach — who's got big time credentials of his own 'cause he was a head coach — he's gonna fall in love with them with the last pick in the first round going to the Philadelphia Eagles and the pick is in.And right now they're trying to make sure they have the pronunciation right, but it's …
Donovan Ezeiruaku
… from Boston College, the guy who won the award for the best defensive pass rusher in the country last year.
Miller: Love the pick had Bill O'Brien on, talked about his trade. He had two game-ending plays that helped the Boston College Eagles to get the victory. So Donovan will be the final selection edge rusher out of BC.
